In case you missed it, this week marks 20 years since Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis exploded onto our screens in Dior and Manolo Blahniks; leaving us all with four major girl crushes and MAJOR outfit envy (WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!).
At Simply Be HQ we’ve been spending (too much) time discussing the most memorable moments, the most fabulous looks and whether we loved or hated Carrie’s monologues.
Of course though, no show with four sassy female leads would be short of iconic quotes and we HAD to share our favourites. Enjoy!
When Samantha renamed herself.
“Hello, my name is Fabulous.”
When Carrie said the most relatable thing we’ve ever heard.
“I’d often fantasized about running into my ex and his wife, but in those fantasies I was running into them with a truck.”
When Big cemented himself as an icon.
When Miranda refused to apologize for her success and inspired girls everywhere to ‘be more Miranda’
“I want to enjoy my success, not apologize for it.”
When Carrie celebrated being single, in the most Carrie Bradshaw way possible.
“I’m registered at Manolo Blahnik.”
And when all she wanted was a cheeseburger and a Cosmopolitan.
“I’d like a cheeseburger, large fries and a Cosmopolitan.”
When Samantha gave us simple but timeless relationship advice.
“As far as I’m concerned the test of a good relationship is: Are you like this? Or like this?”
And this gem.
“Men aren’t that complicated, they’re kind of like plants.”
When we couldn’t knock Charlotte for her determination.
“Allow me to get right to the point. After careful consideration, I have decided that this is the year I am getting married.”
When Carrie told 20-somethings everywhere that all they need to do is be themselves…
“So just love, make mistakes, and have wonderful times, but never second-guess who you are, where you have been, and, most importantly, where it is you are going.”
And to embrace your quirks…
“Somewhere out there is another little freak who will love us and understand us and kiss our three heads and make it all better.”
And to above all, cherish your family – whether they’re related or not.
“The most important thing in life is your family. There are days you love them and others you don’t, but in the end they’re the people you always come home to. Sometimes it’s the family you’re born into. And sometimes it’s the one you make for yourself.”
I work on Simply Be’s marketing team and contribute to the Simply Me blog, writing about everything from celebrity and fashion, to food and travel. In my free time I can be either found at brunch, learning to surf, researching my next holiday destination, binging a Netflix series or eating Nutella straight from the jar.
