International Women’s Day – Interview With Our Marketing Director

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements, whilst calling for gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900’s and is now recognized each year on March 8. IWD is all about celebrating the strong women who inspire us. One such woman is Ann Steer, Marketing Director at N Brown (Simply Be’s parent company). We sat down with Ann to find out what International Women’s Day means to her and our business.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

It’s important to raise awareness – there are so many aspects to International Women’s Day, but in all aspects keeping the conversation live around equality and opportunity is crucial – there is still some way to go!

Who is your biggest influence/inspiration?

I’ve had the good fortune to meet and work with a number of brilliant and inspiring women and delighted to work for a female CEO Angela

What barriers (if any) have you faced as a woman in becoming as successful as you are in this industry?

Noone has put barriers in my way – in fact I have had huge support from a number of great bosses I have worked for. The biggest challenge is having the confidence to step forward and try something new

Why do you think diversity is so important in the workplace?

More diverse teams, by their nature, have different perspectives and so make better decisions

How is N Brown supporting women in business?

We have a women’s network, designed to inspire and equip female talent, we also have training and mentoring for colleagues

Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women who strive to progress their career?

Work hard, be brave and speak up
