The Best TV Shows of 2017

Stranger Things 2

The second instalment of the Duffer Brothers’ retro sci-fi saga provided the TV viewing for the Halloween weekend this year and we couldn’t have been happier about it.

Game of Thrones

GoT was always going to make the list of the top TV shows of the year. The penultimate season finally saw our favorite characters meeting and the white walkers became a real problem for (almost) everyone in Westros. Check out our favorite moments from season 7 here

Big Little Lies

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman’s adaption of Liane Moriarty’s novel was one of the most talked about and successful shows of 2017. It’s brutal and honest depiction of domestic violence and relationships between women had us hooked.

The Crown

Claire Foy’s last season as Queen Elizabeth focused on her relationship with Philip as the pair struggle with the demands of being a royal. The season also covered a number of historical events including the Suez crisis, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Margaret’s wedding.

Based on the characters of Archie Comics, Riverdale was a surprising worldwide success which led to a second season later in the year. This gritty high school drama isn’t just for teens.

The Sinner

The Sinner is a murder mystery with a twist; we know “whodunit”, we just don’t know why. The desire to understand why will keep you watching this one.

Peaky Blinders

The Shelby bothers returned for a forth season to face a new enemy which saw them move back to Birmingham. Old habits die hard with the Shelby’s so expect secret deals and violence.

American Gods

There is no doubt that American Gods is a strange and confusing show; the series is littered with self-contained stories of the Gods that often distract you from the plot but are still part of the show. The stunning visuals will keep you coming back to this one.

2017 was filled with crime drama’s and Mindhunter was one of the best. not that we expected anything less from the director of Fight Club and Gone Girl.  The use psychoanalysis for the first in their investigations by two FBI detectives make for some intense viewing.

The Handmaid’s Tale

The adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian 1985 novel about life in Gilead became the must-watch thriller of 2017.  Elisabeth Moss Emmy winning portrayal of Offred was incredible to watch.

I work in the ecommerce team for Simply Be’s sister brand, JD Williams. When I am not in the office I can usually be found at the cinema or at the local pub enjoying a drink or two. My favourite way to relax at home is a long bubble bath with a good book or binge watching a boxset.
