5 Tips for Long and Healthy Hair

Are you dreaming of long and luscious locks? Well it’s not as hard as you think. A combination of patience, good hair products and following these top 5 tips will get you on your way to long and healthy hair in no time!

1. Use lots of conditioner

Hair conditioner

Whilst shampoo is great for cleansing, it traps oils which means frequent washing can dry your hair out. This obviously depends on your hair type but if your hair is quite dry and takes a while to get greasy then you probably don’t need to use shampoo every time you wash. Or you could try out a sulphate-free shampoo which is gentler on the hair. Conditioners, however, are completely safe and will not harm your hair in the long run. If you find your hair is quite oily then try using it before you shampoo as experts say that for most people the conditioner never fully rinses out. Deep conditioners are also amazing for restoring strength and replenishing moisture.

2. Get regular trims

Hair trims

You may think that the only way to grow your hair is to avoid haircuts at all costs but this will actually cause your ends to break off if they are damaged, making your hair actually look shorter! The trick is to get a quarter to half an inch cut off every two months as the average person’s hair will grow about an inch in this time, meaning your hair should gradually get longer but with luscious ends too!

3. Take care when brushing

Brush hair

Depending on how strong your hair is, brushing can really take its toll on fine and fragile hair. Start from the bottom and make your way up making sure you are gentle with any knots. Wet hair is especially easy to break so if you’re prone to tangles make sure to be extra careful and use a detangling product. A good brush also helps; a wet brush and a tangle teezer are two we can’t live without!

4. Limit the heat

Heat free hair

It’s all well and good making a pact to ditch the straighteners for a while but if you’re anything like us then it’s very hard to cope without styling tools. If you regularly use them try to aim for less than once or twice a week. Heat protectors are great but bear in mind that they only reduce the amount of damage and can’t completely protect against or reverse damage.

5. Take care with bleach

Bleach free hair

Bleaching your hair is an obvious cause of hair damage but if you take the proper steps when you bleach or highlight you can limit the impact. Bleach will cause continuous loss of moisture over time which means it’s more prone to breakage, so we suggest using hair treatments to keep your hair hydrated. Also, opting for just a T section over a full head of highlights at the salon means you can still have lighter locks but give the rest of your hair a break.
