What to Wear to a Wedding

We love a good wedding here at Simply Me HQ however deciding what to wear can be tricky. It is important that you dress for the occasion so use the location and style of wedding to help decide how formal or causal you need to dress. A low key beach wedding has a very different dress code to a black tie affair.

Beach Wedding

Beach weddings have a more relaxed dress code so think flowing maxi dresses, lightweight fabrics and loose fitting jumpsuits. Just like your vacation wardrobe, cool prints and bright colors will always be a winner.

A beach wedding is the perfect excuse to ditch the heels and wear a flat sandals. It is still important to make and effort so pick a pair of metallic sandals or some with embellished details and jewels, we love our pool sliders but they are too casual for a wedding.

City Wedding

City Hall weddings and small intimate ceremonies in cool locations are increasing in popularity with many couples shunning the big traditional wedding. A smart causal look is perfect for a more modern wedding, opt for smart silhouettes such as wide leg trousers or a tailored jumpsuit paired with a chunky block heel. A neutral colour palette will give you look a hint of traditional wedding guest attire but don’t be afraid to go for a bold color or print.

Country Wedding

A traditional country wedding isn’t complete without florals and soft blush tones. You can’t go wrong with a chiffon floral dress or printed prom skirt with a delicate lace top. If dresses aren’t you thing, opt for a printed jumpsuit; it will still be as formal as a dress without you feeling uncomfortable. Choose a block heel if part of the wedding is going to be outside, walking on grass in a stiletto heel is tricky and it can ruin your shoes.

Conservative Wedding

If you are going to a religious wedding ceremony it is important that you dress appropriately as parts of the ceremony may be taking place in a sacred place which may require you to cover-up. Long sleeve dresses which are longer than your knee are your safest options. You may only be required to cover up for the ceremony so wear a smart jacket or pashmina which can be removed at a later point.

Vintage Wedding

Themed weddings are fun but it can be difficult to know how much you should dress up and where to draw the line. Vintage and shabby-chic weddings are one of the most popular wedding themes and you can easily be inspired by the theme without turning up in fancy dress. Embrace the vintage style with retro silhouettes, delicate lace dresses and classic prints.

Black Tie Wedding

Dressing for a black tie affair doesn’t have to be daunting, most of us don’t often get the chance to wear a glamourous ball gown so enjoy it. A black tie dress code calls for elegant full-length gowns but you can opt for a cocktail dress, as long as the hemline isn’t too short or the style isn’t too revealing. Statement clutches are made for black tie events, embellishment and jewelled designs will finish off your outfit.

Now that we have sorted your outfit worries out it’s time to let your hair down; Weddings are for celebrating and having fun with loved ones after all!

I work in the ecommerce team for Simply Be’s sister brand, JD Williams. When I am not in the office I can usually be found at the cinema or at the local pub enjoying a drink or two. My favourite way to relax at home is a long bubble bath with a good book or binge watching a boxset.
