How to Host a Traditional English Afternoon Tea

Fancy something different for your day with the ladies? Why not try making a traditional English afternoon tea? A British tradition since the 1840’s, it’s a great way to relax and have a catch up whilst sipping a cup of tea.

The traditional afternoon tea consists of finger sandwiches, scones (with clotted cream and jam), cakes and pastries and of course, a pot of tea! If you fancy more of a boozy tea, add a glass of champagne!

Sound good so far? Here’s your guide to creating your own afternoon tea:

What will I need?

  • Bread
  • Sandwich fillings of your choice – classic options are
    • Ham and mustard
    • Egg mayonnaise
    • Cucumber
    • Smoked salmon and cream cheese
    • Coronation chicken
  • Scones
  • Clotted Cream
  • Jams/Lemon Curd
  • Selection of cakes and/or biscuits
  • Tea (the classic brew is English Breakfast!)
  • Champagne (optional!)

There are so many different ways to mix up your tea. Include your favorite sandwich; make it all savoury (or all sweet!); maybe include a selection of fruit and veg & dips. Enjoy!
